Associate Counsel

Conterra Ag Capital, a growing agricultural lending and asset management company located in West Des Moines and serving agricultural producers nationwide, is seeking an Associate Counsel to join its Legal Department.  The Associate Counsel will report to Senior Counsel and work closely with a team of attorneys, closers, and servicers to document, close, and service commercial agriculture loans originated across the country.  The Associate Counsel will also support the performance, representation, direction, and oversight of assigned legal and compliance activities for Conterra and its subsidiaries/affiliates.  Ideal candidates will have a working knowledge of ag real estate and/or commercial lending. 

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The Associate Counsel works collaboratively with the Legal, Closing, and Servicing Departments on a daily basis.   The Associate Counsel generally is assigned the following duties and responsibilities:

 

  • Assists the Senior Counsel in the oversight and review of title commitments on real estate loans, and works with closers, underwriting staff, borrowers, field servicers, title insurance officers, and legal counsel to obtain and ensure clean title.
  • Preparation and review of loan documents on real estate loans.
  • Preparation and review of documents related to servicing actions on real estate loans.
  • Researching and providing opinions on legal issues related to federal and state lending, licensing, and secured real estate transactions.
  • Assists in the management and completion of post-close loan documentation and title-work.

Experience/Qualifications:

The following experience is representative of the knowledge, skill, and ability desired for the position:

  • Law degree from accredited university and current license to practice law.
  • 2 to 4 years’ experience in a law firm or other legal setting, with 1 to 3 years’ practice in areas of real estate and/or lending.
  • Excellent research, analytical, communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of and proficiency with MS Office programs.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as the situation dictates.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize work, be detail oriented, and manage deadlines.
